Montague Island Tours

Tour with local knowledge

You haven’t had a holiday in Narooma unless you’ve joined us on one of our Montague Island Tours!

Around 8km offshore, Montague Island is one of the most popular attractions on the South Coast. This island is pristine, unspoilt and surrounded by the bluest waters you’ve seen. Montague Island Nature reserve is also home to penguins, a resident seal colony and has rich historic links to indigenous culture, Narooma and the South Coast boating industry.

Montague Island is approximately 80 hectares in size and its lighthouse has been in operation since 1881. We know all of the secrets of the island and have been taking visitors on Montague Island tours since 1983. All tours involve a 25 minute boat trip, and the same trip back again. On the way back we may stop for dolphins or whales which can extend the time.

We’ll take you to see Montague’s resident seal colony, and along the way you may encounter pods of migrating whales (Sept to Nov), vast schools of friendly dolphins, basking sunfish, manta rays, or acres of pelagic fish.

Montague Island is well known for its colony of Little Penguins. It’s home to around 10,000 pairs of them! These birds return to their burrows each evening after a busy time fishing in the waters in and around the island. This nightly migration can be viewed on the evening tour to the Island between September and late January.
